If a piece of yarn pulls out, will my carpet unravel?

Occasional 'sprouts' are a normal part of living with a hand-knotted rug. Because each rug is made by hand, individual yarn ends may sometimes work their way above the pile through regular use, vacuuming, moving furniture, or foot traffic. This does not mean the rug is damaged, and it does not mean the carpet will unravel. In a hand-knotted rug, each knot is tied individually, so one raised yarn is simply a loose end showing itself, not a thread that can undo the entire piece.

To care for a sprout, do not pull it. Gently lift the raised yarn and trim it flush with the surrounding pile using a sharp pair of scissors. Once clipped, the yarn will blend back into the surface of the rug. Never tug, yank, or try to pull the yarn out, as this can distort the surrounding pile.
